Oil Of Gladness

Worship from Church House, Bradford
Oil Of Gladness album cover

A beautifully intimate view into the weekly worship at Church House in Bradford in 1978, this tape features a broad spectrum of music and worship styles ranging from full congregational participation to prophetic solos from individual worshippers. (See if you can recognise any of the voices!) There is also a lovely small ensemble performance of Holy, Holy, Holy Is The Lord, traditional hymns and of course there's some singing in tongues. The highlight of this compilation for me is the prophetic piano solo by David Matthew on the lovely Steinway gGand (later joined in with the other instrumentalists) - yes it may only be a four-or-five-chord vamp but there are almost words in that music. I have loved that piece for nigh on thirty years and still it speaks new things to me - it really is prophetic piano playing. This is spontaneous, Spirit-led, unscripted and heartfelt praise and worship at its best. You will feel your heart being uplifted with the very first song and it doesn't stop there.

For this album, more than all the others in this collection, expect to feel the actual nearby presence of God as you listen to it, in a way that perhaps you have not experienced Him before.
